For my thesis titled "Decision Support System for Supply Chain Management: the Carmeuse Central Europe case" I developed a tool to take strategic and tactical supply chain decision. Based on a MIP solver it optimizes a supply chain network.

  • DSS for Supply Chain in Lime Industry, the Carmeuse Central Europe case

    MSc. Thesis

In Carmeuse Central Europe, the supply chain function is more and more involved in operational and strategic decisions of increasing complexity.
In 2008, the head of supply chain developed an Excel based DSS that optimizes the choice of customer allocation. One benefit of an optimization tool is to identify the best possible solution, even when it is not intuitive to managers.

The main disadvantage is that the optimization was based on a model that does not perfectly represent reality: simplifications are inevitable; only a fraction of the information is taken into account. Therefore, solutions cannot be used “as-is” but must be adapted by the managers.
This master thesis presents a new DSS that aims to support long-term supply chain decisions. The advantages are the following:
    1. The proposed solutions are more relevant thanks to a modeling that is closer to reality.
    2. In a decision process, the manager can use the system more interactively and configured easily; everything is designed to automate the configuration and make the computation as fast as possible.
    3. It is designed for a wide range of decisions, such as multi-products multi-periods supply chain planning as well as network design problems.
    4. Its flexible structure allows further improvements and use within many contexts and regions.
