About Carrefour, Mongolia

Carrefour Mongolia, a prominent player in the retail industry, operates a network of retail stores across Mongolia. French retailer Carrefour entered the Mongolian market in association with Altan Joloo and its subsidiary Sansar. As per the plan, all 20 Sansar stores in Mongolia will be rebranded to create 20 new Carrefour hypermarkets and supermarkets in the coming years. With a strong commitment to providing quality products and services to its customers, Carrefour Mongolia has become a trusted name in the region.

Located in various cities throughout Mongolia, the company boasts a comprehensive retail network, serving a diverse clientele. Its dedication to offering a wide range of products, from groceries to household items, aligns with its mission to provide a one-stop shopping experience for individuals and families.

Employing a sizable workforce of dedicated professionals, Carrefour Mongolia focuses on delivering exceptional customer service and ensuring the satisfaction of its customers. Through continuous innovation and a commitment to sustainability, the company has established itself as a leader in the Mongolian retail landscape.

In a competitive industry where efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and customer service are paramount, Carrefour Mongolia recognizes the importance of reliable procurement and helpdesk departments. These departments play a pivotal role in enhancing operational efficiency, reducing costs, and delivering a superior customer experience, further cementing Carrefour Mongolia's reputation as a retail powerhouse in Mongolia.

The Challenge

Carrefour Mongolia grappled with a significant operational challenge as they navigated the retail landscape. Their existing system, an outdated and unreliable solution, was over-engineered, and they struggled to manage the core company processes effectively. This system not only hindered their ability to scale their operations efficiently but also compromised the accuracy of financial transactions. The absence of transparent processes for managing operations, logistics, and finance further exacerbated the situation, hampering their overall business operations. Therefore, Carrefour Mongolia embarked on its journey with Portcities to help enhance its operations.

Objectives

Carrefour Mongolia set several objectives to enhance the day-to-day operations of individual supermarkets and franchise stores, ensuring a seamless and customer-centric retail experience.

  • Standardize business procedures to enhance efficiency and customer-centric experience across all stores.
  • Localize the system to comply with Mongolian regulations in accounting standards.
  • Handle a large number of daily transactions across the stores.

Portcities’ Solution

With a clear understanding of the challenges, Portcities, an Odoo partner and expert in ERP solutions, set to work.

To address the intricate challenges faced by Carrefour Mongolia, a comprehensive solution was devised involving a phased approach to implement the Odoo ERP system.

    • Vendor Payment Suggestions based on the sell-out quantity.

Project Implementation

Phase 1.1 - Store Implementation: The initial phase focused on optimizing all store-related functions within Carrefour Mongolia. This encompassed areas such as Point of Sale (POS), Inventory management, Purchase processes, Sales operations, and the establishment of an efficient Helpdesk system. The objective was to enhance the day-to-day operations of their individual supermarkets and franchise stores, ensuring a seamless and customer-centric retail experience. This phase marked the initial step in modernizing their operations with Odoo ERP, commencing in October 2022.

Phase 1.2 - Central Sync Implementation: In the second part of this phase, known as the "Central Sync Implementation," the project shifted its focus towards centralization, particularly finance and master data management. This phase aimed to harmonize financial processes across the organization, ensuring transaction accuracy and reliability. Additionally, it involved centralizing master data, providing a single source of truth for essential information across Carrefour Mongolia's various outlets. This project phase was initiated after the successful completion of the store implementation phase, leveraging Odoo ERP version E15 to facilitate this centralization effort. Implementing these phases represented a crucial step in transforming Carrefour Mongolia's operations, fostering efficiency, accuracy, and scalability.

Ongoing Support: Beyond the successful implementation, Portcities continues to provide ongoing support to Carrefour Mongolia. This commitment involves deploying the Odoo ERP system to all 16 upcoming Carrefour Mongolia stores, ensuring that the benefits of modernization and efficiency are extended throughout the organization. Furthermore, Portcities remains dedicated to assisting with finance figures conversion to Central and providing steadfast helpdesk support. This ongoing partnership emphasizes Portcities' dedication to ensuring that Carrefour Mongolia's journey towards retail excellence remains uninterrupted and future-focused.
